With a new year and decade emerging and one of the most challenging years in recent history just behind us, many are wondering what the future holds and where to find growth opportunities.

Futurist and business/life coach Karen McNeil, President and Managing Principal of Karen McNeil & Associates, says the biggest wins in the future will belong to those who leverage emerging trends and those who hone their intuitive ability to spot opportunities and avoid major pitfalls. For growth opportunities, McNeil recommends looking to trends in lifestyle preferences, transportation, niche leisure travel, pet care and network marketing.

According to McNeil, unlike earlier eras when the U.S. exported The American lifestyle around the world, U.S. culture will begin importing global lifestyles. Look for a more European and particularly French flavor to emerge in the U.S. For example, watch for trendy cafes, smaller food portions and fresher food. Look for growth in businesses that change their "No Pets Allowed" signs to those that welcome patrons and their pets. Watch for the preferred mode of transportation to shift from cars to high-speed rail and expect a renewed craving for luxury. Despite the fact that budgets are tight, every business should find ways to deliver luxury. The average consumer has drastically scaled back spending, eliminating many luxuries and even some necessities.

That sudden and dramatic sense of deprivation has created a longing for a return to luxury. It has also created a competitive advantage for businesses that find ways to deliver the feel of luxury without the accompanying price tag. Now is also the time to secure solid market positions in areas that will benefit from the next wave of baby boomer spending," says McNeil "Their net worth has suffered recent declines, but baby boomers will still spend on what's important to them. Businesses with an eye on the future should look at the tremendous growth opportunities with baby boomers in the niche leisure travel market as well as in products and services that enable them to lavishly pamper their pets. For the right price, they will still find creative ways to live their dreams, see the world and dote on their beloved pet companions."

McNeil also forecasts network marketing to be one of the biggest growth areas of the decade. According to McNeil, "Network marketing is a powerful and growing distribution channel that simply cannot be ignored. When people like Warren Buffett, Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki are endorsing it, it's time to understand why. The answer is quite simple. Research shows that over a ten year period, global network marketing sales increased by nearly forty percent from $82 billion to $114 billion. In that same timeframe, the number of people in the field increased by about eighty-five percent from 34 million to 63 million. Many of those people are seasoned professionals and traditional business owners who are pouring into network marketing companies to diversify their incomes. The growth is absolutely staggering and anyone interested in the major trends shaping our future will be paying attention to network marketing."

While her firm typically works individually with businesses and private clients to develop strategies unique to their needs, McNeil recommends for those seeking new careers, growth opportunities or fresh marketing strategies to look for ways to leverage these opportunities. McNeil forecasts these to be among the most sustainable trends in the new era.

McNeil, a former corporate executive with an impressive background in strategic planning, operations, finance and human resources, began forecasting emerging futures after discovering she has an unusual talent that has become the foundation of her business. Through a series of significant events that occurred nearly a decade ago, McNeil recognized her ability to perceive, intuit and see emerging trends and events that are imperceptible to others. Sources close to her confirm that since then, McNeil has used that ability to accurately forecast the emergence of trends and events that have riveted the world. She also uses it to give clients insights unique to their individual circumstances. Combining intuitive foresight and business acumen, McNeil has created a business/life coaching niche with clients ranging from CEOs and Senior executives to public officials and private citizens who have come to trust and rely on her foresight. While the use of intuitive foresight in business is new to many, clients like Stan Taylor, Chairman of the Board of PassPort RailRoad, Human Resources Manager Mary Tabuena and Mike Shoun, owner of Affordable Image.com all agree McNeil's foresight has given them a valuable window into the future and a distinct competitive advantage in business and life.

"Leveraging intuitive foresight" says McNeil, "is unquestionably the new mandate for the coming decade. In 2008 we moved into the Era of the Tsunami where every wave brings unprecedented opportunity for gain or loss. Fortunes can be made or lost in a day and that will remain the norm throughout most of the decade. Fortunately, 2010 brings a window of opportunity to recover from many of the losses sustained in 2008 and 2009, but there is still a need for great caution. The old adage you reap what you sow has never been truer than it is today. Increasingly, the good and bad crops from seeds sown today will be harvested very quickly because of the accelerated response we're seeing to business and personal decisions. That is why it has never been more critical to have accurate intuitive foresight in our business and personal lives.

Today even the best business skills and a star-studded team simply won't cut it. The ability to survive, thrive and create wealth in this era will be largely dependent upon our ability to hone and live by our innate instincts. Intuitive foresight will be the differentiator that determines who is still standing at end of each year and it will ultimately define the winners of this decade. We all have some level of intuitive ability and fully developing it is absolutely vital to our individual and collective success."
