Nov Adsense $616:This Slick WP Theme Made It Possible

As you know in Oct I broke the duck in my Adsense earnings by finally passing my $10 per day earnings I had set as my second goal. Well the third goal is to reach a monthly Adsence income of $1000 and Nov’s adsense results shows I’ve made good progress to achieve this target. My Nov adsense income from my niche sites was $616, an increase of 28 percent over last month.

Nov $616
Oct $444
Sep $260
Aug $224
Jul $268

My Secret Tool Revealed-Adsense Crusher Template

Actually  I had wanted to reveal this “secret” i.e the WordPress template I have been using, in my last Adsense update “Google Adsense-Here’s How You Can Achieve 70 pct Increase Too“. But I couldn’t do so because Gabriel the WP template creator had not set up the affiliate program then. Well the good news is that he just did and here is the Adsense Crusher WordPress template (this is an affiliate link) that helped me so much to reach my previous target and will continue to help achieve my next target of $1000 per month.

1. It’s specially created to get you exceptionally high CTR  to maximize Adsense earnings. The theme is the main ingredient for having a high CTR.

2. It’s SEO optmized

3. If there is anything you need to modify the theme, Gabriel does that for you too at your request, free! So you’re not just buying a theme but a lifelong service.

4. It allows you one set of images for all your posts or you can set up different images for any post you want and have default images for all the rest. You’ll be taught how simple it is to do this. (for me I put on every post 4 115X115 pictures at the top with keywords in the image alt text)

5. In Theme admin, you can select to show excerpts not the full posts in homepage and category pages

6. The color scheme is easily customizable in the theme admin.

7. An adsense guide which covers the theme installation is provided for you to follow. WordPress is extremely easy to use even if you are just starting out and have never done it before. In the guide you are given Gabriel’s personal email if you run into problems setting everything up so don’t be afraid to use it. (I’ve used it and trust me he is there for you)

8. When you purchase you get 2 Ebook guides (SEO strategies and theme install walk-through) + Slick WordPress theme plus a bonus marketing software Gabriel built that you can use to ping a list of your pages to about 130 sites.

9. The Adsense crusher system comes with white hat marketing & backlink strategies all explained in the ebook.

10. Included in the course are 3 main traffic and backlink strategies. You will learn to deconstruct effectively what your competitors have done right; how Gabriel uses web 2.0 properties to increase Google love and increase traffic etc

If you are searching for a magic pill or a quick “put money in my bank tomorrow” kind of method in adsense, this isn’t the one for you.  This is just a tool that has been developed, tested to give you very high CTR, one of 2 things that will increase your adsense income, the other being traffic.

You will still have to bring in the traffic yourself though so you will have to think about the quality of your contents on your blog and the backlinking strategies you currently follow.

How fast you can get to a $20 dollar or $50 day depends very much on your own effort and time but this Adsense Crusher system and WP Theme can help you expedite this time.

What Are The Best Jobs For The Future Economy

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

The best jobs for the future have absolutely nothing to do with the jobs our parents had, the best jobs 10 years ago or even the great careers of yesterday…We are in a NEW ECONOMY and the way we make a living has changed.

Unless you know what you’re doing there will be little to NO job security in the 21st century, our economy has changed on fundamental level and unless you want to find yourself caught in the recession it’s important to pay attention to the coming trends. More and more businesses are downsizing, more people are working from home, which is great for you and your family. Below I’ve laid out what I believe to be the top 3 careers that will make you a lot of money and be fun at the same time.

Top 3 Best Jobs For The Future:

1. Home Based Entrepreneur or Business Owner: That’s right if you examine any recession in history there is always 1 profession that is hands down the best and that is entrepreneurship. The good news for you is it’s never been easier to become one, the invention of the internet will allow many people to make 6 and 7 figure incomes from the comfort of their own home even during a recession.

2. Internet/Affiliate Marketer: Becoming an internet marketer used to be a mystery but not anymore. Some of the most valuable training on the planet has evolved because of this profession. The best part is you can get training for free, which is much cheaper than spending thousands and thousands of dollars on school.

3. Join a Direct Sales Organization: Direct selling is the absolute future of the New Economy and if you enjoy helping people this ones for you. $100-$250k per year incomes are easily attainable by joining the right team and organization. Full training is provided and this is truly one of the best jobs for the future.

One LAST thing….

The future is always uncertain but there is one thing you can be absolutely certain about. The old paradigm of going to school, getting a degree, and becoming a slave to the rat race is a thing of the past. I highly suggest you begin to study and hang around successful people. Remember we are in a NEW ECONOMY, take ACTION!

Three Copywriting Techniques You Should Use

You can't become a good copywriter overnight, but it's something that you can profit from in many ways once you have it down. You can start improving your copywriting skills today by applying the tips in this article. You truly require to make sure your copywriting converts well simply because you might invest lots of money with seo software to build profile links or pay per click in order to get website traffic.

When selling your product with your copy come up with an irresistible offer. The fact that you like what you are selling is almost never a good enough reason for someone else to buy it. You have to give your prospects a strong reason to buy from you. In addition to creating a unique selling point for your chosen product line you also need to have outstanding sales copy if you want to stand out from the crowd. You have to give them an offer they can't refuse. If you have a strong offer, more people will want to buy from you. A great way to do this is to give out free bonuses along with your product to give people more incentive to buy from you - be creative and you'll know what to do. Don't make the mistake some writers make and over hype your product--doing that could end up disappointing your customers when they do actually open up the products that you are selling. Transparency and honesty rule the day when you present your product to your readers. Last, but absolutely not least, do not let yourself be too restricted in your writing: let changes come when they need to. Always try to be better than you currently are.

The second important copywriting tip that you need to remember is to use a P.S. when you end your copy. P.S. is nothing but 'post script' which is a great tool to grab those last minute sales. Plenty of people believe adding a P.S after their copy is just insignificant. But it's important, only second to the headline. Some visitors tend to scroll all the way to the end of your copy to find the price, so your P.S is a great way to draw attention back to your offer. It reinforces the benefits once again and tells the prospect to reconsider and take action. This is a powerful tool that you can use in many ways. If you put in the time and effort to write a good post script, you'll be rewarded with a boost in the number of sales as well as increased conversions.

The AIDA formula is a good guideline to use in all your copywriting. Your prospects will respond well if you take them through these four steps. First grab their attention, then get them interested, then create a desire and ultimately lead them towards the action you want them to take. You can get very impressive results from this copywriting formula that has been used successfully for a long time.

In conclusion, copywriting is a difficult skill that takes practice, but if you keep these tips in mind you will improve over time.

One Of The Best Ways To Make Extra Money

The following is a guest post by Laurie Neumann. If you would like to write for this blog, please checkout the guidelines.

Today, especially with what we have all been through with the economy, many people are wondering what the best ways to make extra money are.   The internet has opened up a whole range of possibilities that are open to anyone.  In this article, I would like to explore Affiliate marketing, which, in my opinion, is one of the best ways to make some extra money online.

Simply put, it is selling other people’s products and earning a commission on any sales you make.  You can sell physical or digital products, each one having its own advantages.

Digital products normally offer a much higher percentage of commission and can be pretty fast movers if you are promoting what people are interested in.

Physical products, though offering a lower rate of commission, may be higher priced, so your commission can still add up to a good amount.

You will need to search for what fits into your niche the best.   Always choose high quality products to offer as that is what will be best for your market and also remember that your name will be associated with the product.

You have heard the phrase “the jack of all trades, master of none” referring to someone who has a lot of skills in a lot of areas, but has not “mastered” any of them.  It is hard to become successful if you spread yourself too thin.  The same holds true with affiliate marketing.   To be successful, you have to get to know your market and be known in your market.  Your goal should be to become the “go to” person in that niche.  Become acquainted with your market’s needs and interests.  Write about them and offer them solutions to their challenges.  They will soon be coming to you for advice and recommendations.

Let’s drill this down to an example.  Instead of offering music CD’s, vitamins, apparel and a host of other items as an affiliate, concentrate on one niche.  Let’s say you enjoy golf.  As an affiliate, you could promote golf clubs and become an expert on which clubs are the best choice for individuals.   Or you can go the route of offering golf clothing, shoes, and visors/hats.  Even with a particular niche, it’s a good idea to narrow it down to a certain aspect.  Then people know who to come to when they are looking for something in your area of expertise.

Affiliate marketing is a low-cost business to start and you can get going in it pretty quickly as you don’t need to develop a product.  That is what  makes it one of the best ways to make extra money.

Start Your Own Snail Mail Newsletter Service

Even though there are hundreds of thousands of newsletters you can elect to receive via email thanks to the power of the internet, a lot of people still like to receive a paper copy that they can keep. At a time when everything is so easily disposed of, it’s arguable that a paper newsletter actually has a longer shelf life, since it’s much harder to throw away something tangible than it is to hit a button and delete it out of your inbox.

But how easy is it to set up your own snail mail newsletter service? Surprisingly, it might just be easier than you think…

So what makes a successful snail mail newsletter? They are easy enough to create these days thanks to desktop publishing, and if you hit on a popular subject and end up with hundreds of subscribers you can get the newsletter printed up properly.

But the key factor is the subject you pick. What are you going to write about? You need to be able to charge enough for the newsletter to cover your costs and make some profit, but you need to provide information that can’t easily be found elsewhere.

The great thing about a newsletter sent in this manner is that it can literally be almost one hundred per cent information and nothing else. So for example you can have something like an eight page newsletter (or maybe even less) that is packed with information and no fluff, and charge a reasonable amount for the info you provide. And with a newsletter that size you can put it into a normal envelope and post it at the cheapest rate possible because it will be so light.

You can get some use out of the internet when you are thinking about creating your own snail mail newsletter, because you can use it for research. What subjects could you use for a newsletter? Is there anything you already know a lot about that enough people would be interested in? You also need a unique angle so find out what else is being offered on that topic and position your own offering differently if you can.

The next step is where to find customers – and this is where you can use the internet to help you even more. Ideally you should set up a website that promotes the newsletter which will draw people in from the search engines and hopefully encourage people to sign up to pay you for the newsletter. A blog on the same subject can also be a good idea, as it gives you a chance to demonstrate to prospective customers that you know what you are talking about and can be a good source of information.

But how often should this newsletter be produced for the maximum effect?

Monthly is generally the best idea for a snail mail version, since it will give you plenty of time to gather new material together, write the newsletter and get it printed and mailed out each time. It’s a good idea to get off to a good start by making sure you have enough material for two or three newsletters so you don’t have to panic about doing the next one as soon as the first one is mailed out. This will also give you additional time to make sure you can attract plenty more subscribers.

I can’t stress enough the importance of doing your homework before you get started though. Making sure you choose a good subject, you have enough material and you can provide something that no one else can is guaranteed to give you the best shot at creating something that is likely to stick around for some time.

Think about having regular columns as well, as this helps to create a familiarity with the newsletter that you wouldn’t have otherwise. And offer people a free sample issue to get started – it will bring in a lot more subscribers as a result.

So – are you ready to start your own snail mail newsletter? If you are, leave a comment below to let us know how this blog entry helped you! And good luck.

Write And Sell Your Own Rap Beats Or Song Music And Lyrics

How many times do you watch and listen to top bands and think you could do better? If you often do that maybe you should have a go at it yourself?

It’s an unlikely way to make some money but that’s no reason not to consider it if you have musical talents yourself. And in reality you don’t need to be able to sing or play a musical instrument yourself nowadays either – if you know how to do it you could still be able to sell your own rap beats and music to young artists with virtually no musical knowledge at all!

Fancy learning more? If you do, you’ve come to the right place.

If you have the right software and you do have something of an ear for music, then you can start selling your rap beats online in a very short time indeed.

The key to getting started is to do a search for some software and buy something that will enable you to create a selection of rap beats from scratch. The more practice you get at this the more you will start to develop a sound that is uniquely yours – and that is what will ultimately sell your rap beats to the people who are looking for them.

It will also help to set up your own website so that you can sell your offerings directly off there. You can sell them via other sites as well, but there is nothing like having your own dedicated site to promote your wares. Make sure you have a good domain name and you put related keywords in the writing on your website to attract those people who will be looking for your kind of music.

You could also have a crack at writing your own song lyrics. It helps to have some knowledge of music here though, as you will need to be able to write the music to go with it – even if it is just the basic notes and chords to show other people how it would sound in a very rough way.

You then have the choice of whether you want to sell them directly to aspiring young artists or to studios, but whichever way you do it you need to make sure you know what you are selling them for. It’s worth delving into the subject of rights and payments in far more depth than we can do here, since you want to make sure you price them fairly but also don’t do yourself out of a nice profit at the same time.

There is always the chance that you could end up writing a number one song! If you did that and you had sold the lyrics or rap beat for a small one of payment, you could literally have to sit back and watch as the artist who recorded it made a fortune and you didn’t. So be wary of how to go about this aspect of the business, and get professional advice on the best way to do things in this respect.

So do you feel as if you have some music inside you? If you do, start looking into the idea of getting that software and creating your own website to get started right now. So long as you start out in the right way you could be selling your own music to all kinds of bands and names both now and in the future.

But leave us a comment first before you start creating those raps!

Write Your Own “How To…” E-Book Or Course And Sell It

E-books are big business online – especially if they teach other people how to do things. How to earn more money, how to sell on e-Bay, how to write a bestseller… the possibilities are endless if you have the knowledge and the perseverance to actually write a book and then get out there and sell it.

What’s more, you can apply exactly the same principle to creating a course too. By splitting it up into sections you are creating more value – and you can charge more as a result.

If it’s done properly it can be a real money spinner.

You don’t need to be an expert on e-books to know they sell extremely well if you pick the right subject. “How to…” e-books and courses are particularly good at shifting lots of virtual copies, since they reveal the answers to things that people want to know.

The first thing to remember is that you need to pick a topic that isn’t going to suddenly become unpopular. The topics are obvious here – money, sex or health. Those are the three biggest selling topics around. If you look at all the e-books and courses online, you’ll see that they all revolve around one of those topics in some way. The successful ones do, anyway.

But it’s not just a case of picking a good topic. You need to pick a great title and get the best information to go in it as well. If you want to write a whole course then you need to ensure you’ve got plenty of material and you can divide it naturally into separate sections.

It helps if you already have some knowledge of the subject you are writing about. One of the keys to success is to find your own unique angle, as this is what will sell copies. Don’t try and tread over the same old material that is already out there. It will only be a waste of time. If you have tried something yourself or come up with your own foolproof method of doing something, and other people you know have tried it and got the same results… now that is something worth writing about.

Along with writing the product itself, you’ll also need to write the sales page to go with it. If you’re no good at writing you can always hire a ghostwriter to do it for you; this will cost money but if it’s ghostwritten you can still put your name to it at the end.

Now you need to decide how much to charge for it. The more value it has the more you can charge, and it’s important not to price it too low otherwise it won’t be taken seriously. When it comes to pricing the course you can charge more; it’s up to you whether you supply the whole thing for a flat fee, or set up a payment model where you dispatch one part every month (perhaps via email) in exchange for a monthly payment. This can sometimes result in more people taking you up on the offer, since a smaller monthly amount is easier to pay than one large fee up front.

While you can and should do plenty of research and plan your book or course carefully before you even start to write it, there is still a degree of risk involved. Even ideas that you think will be guaranteed winners might flop, whereas other ones you’re not so sure about could sell massive amounts.

But you will learn plenty from your first effort, and you can use that knowledge to launch your second e-book. And your third, and your fourth…

Fancy giving it a go? Like the idea of being a published author? Why not check out the possibilities now? But leave us a comment first! Good luck.

Fast Money Tool, A New Site for Writers, and an Announcement

One of our longest time members Marc Meole, let me know about a new tool he’s created called The Fast Money Tool to help you achieve what the product name promises; fast money. Given Marc has been a member here for over 5 years and has a great reputation he’s already earned my trust, but I thought I’d outline some of the features here in case anyone out there was looking for some help in making money online.

According to Marc, “I’ve been working online for about 7 years now. Mainly niche/affiliate marketing. I’ve been a software developer for about 9 years…Never put the 2 of them together until the past couple years. My wife had some health issues and I needed to do a lot more around the house (we have 4 daughters and we home school). Family comes first and they needed my attention… So business started to suffer. I needed to come up with a way to research, create, promote, etc all while spending half the time online I used to, and that’s how the Fast Money Tool was born”.

The tool itself is made up of several smaller tools, which all work together to help both seasoned veterans and newbies alike:

Niche Research (7 Top Research Tools)Finding free content ( 4 Places To Find Totally Free Content)Creating a site (Track Your Free Site or Paid Hosting)Keyword Research (Keyword Analyzing Tool)Analyzing Your Competition (See What Your Competition Looks Like)Finding the top places to promote (Promotion Tool Will Guide You to Countless Places to Promote Your Product)

If that sounds good to you, you can get your copy here. There’s a 30 day money back guarantee and it costs $25.

Since I’m feeling in a promotional mood, I was also alerted about a new site for freelance writers that just launched called BagAWriter. It’s got everything you’d expect from similar freelance sites; profiles, a bidding system, and a chat option for employers to discuss projects with prospective writers. One part of the site I liked was the “Student Centre”, where students can get online tutoring at a fixed rate. There’s a few projects listed on there now so if you’re into writing, check it out.

Announcement-wise, I was just reviewing our latest job application stats, and in the last 30 day period we finally crossed an important milestone:

Over 500 job seekers applied to positions through whydowork and 52 were hired!

The more employers we can connect our site visitors with the better, and 500 in 30 days is a great milestone for us. 52/500 isn’t half bad either (over 10% of applicants were successful).
If you are interested in freelance or work at home jobs, we have a great work at home jobs search engine and offer guides and tips to help you land the job.

The best things in life are always free, right? That theory went out the window when I started looking for ocean front property. :) One great thing you can get for free, right now, is the book Own Your Future: Update Your Skills with Resources and Career Ideas from Microsoft. How a New Feature in Google Webmaster Tools Can Make You More Money

Last week I logged into Google Webmaster Tools and noticed something different; the keyword report now showed how many impressions, clicks, and your average position in Google search results worldwide.

Cross section this information with data in Google Analytics, and it’s a goldmine. I’ll show you!

First you need to choose something on your site you’d like to improve. A key source of revenue for WhyDoWork.com are our work at home job listings. Improving traffic to this area of the site will result in more revenue (more traffic = more money).

With that in mind, I logged into Google Analytics and looked at the top referring keyword to the jobs page this week. It turns out a lot of traffic to that specific was coming from search engines for the keyword “data entry jobs”. Here’s a screenshot:

Next, I want to see some details on how we actually rank for that, and related terms in Google. This used to be a challenging metric to pull, but it’s easy now in Google Webmaster Tools. All I did to generate the report below is search for the text “data entry”:

Based on the screenshot above, you can see that in the last week we’ve appeared in search results 720 times for the keyword “data entry online jobs”, but only had a click through rate of 13%. It’s likely low because in the last column you can see that our average rank on Google is position 7.8 (likely most often the 8th result on page 1). If we were ranked #1, we’d still get 720 impressions, but our click through rate would be extremely high.

Look a few rows down and you can see that “captcha data entry” has generated almost as many clicks, with only about a sixth of the impressions. Since we’re ranked 3.4 on average, this might be a search term worth working on our ranking for.

Using the above tools in combination can help you find relationships between data on your own sites, and hopefully use that to understand what key terms you should be optimizing for maximum traffic; and we all know my favorite formula:

more traffic = more dollars $ :)

How to Strike it Rich in 2011

How many of us have made the following type of comments: ‘Why didn’t I buy a great domain name back in 1996?’,  ’Why didn’t I start a money making website in 1999?’ , ‘This sucks! All the good ideas are already taken!!’ Sure, the people who did those things are wealthy now, but while some people complained about missing the boat, others have built a new one and the smart people got on board. For example, in 2004 Mark Zuckerberg started Facebook and then in 2007 another gentelman created Zynga (owner of popular Facebook apps such as Farmville). Trust me there will always be room for new innovations.

With the Internet rapidly evolving, it is so important to stay current, read about trends, and proactively think of where the next opportunities exist. I have personally run businesses that were very successful at the time but are now totally abandoned. At one point I’ve sold pop under ads, bought expired domains, ranked tops in the Yahoo Directory, and others, all completely irrelevant in today’s Internet world. In the meantime I’ve shifted my efforts to stay current. Last year I created a Daily Deals website (a niche that has exploded since) and am working on some totally customized Facebook Connect integrations.

One thing that I will admit is that the opportunities are not as easy as it once was. In the early 2000s I created all my own websites (simple HTML and php).  Now I outsource all my development and focus my efforts on design and marketing. The technologies used to compete today have gotten quite a bit more advanced, however the ease of outsourcing has gotten substantially easier and cheaper so don’t be intimidated by it.

So where do I think the next big ideas will come from? Here is my list of the hottest places to focus your efforts in 2011:

Google TV (Apps) – I really believe this is going to be huge in a few years and now is the time to start coming up with some creating applications to creatively merge together the TV and Internet.Social Media Promotion – This one is really on fire right now and it may be only a temporary market but there is a huge desire for people to grow their social exposure. I’ve seen a lot of sites emerging that allow you to buy facebook fans and twitter followers, and guess what. They are raking it in.Facebook Connect – It’s time to take your current site and figure out how to integrate with Facebook and Twitter. I’m not talking about setting up the obligatory pages but building in real value added integration that allows people to seamlessly share content on your site with their facebook friends.Blackberry / Android Tablet (Apps) – While there is still opporunties with the Apple iPad, that niche is becoming saturated. The Blackberry and Android tablets might be a better place to look.

Have any ideas to add to the list?

If You’re in LA This Weekend…

It would be worth checking out the Work at Home Business Expo set for November 13-14 in Pomona, CA.  Keynote Speakers, such as Dr. Laura Schlessinger, will be attending the event to give key advice to attendees who either already have an at home business or are looking to start.

According to the July 2010 Kiplinger Letter, more than half of all small businesses are run from owners’ homes. Moreover, 6.6 million of them supply 50% or more of the household income. This is in a large part due to the advances in technology which gives business owners a global reach while saving money on rent overhead.

For those who have been previously hesitant to invest in home based programs, the WaHB Expo gives an opportunity to meet company representatives face to face.

Admissions is $10 or $8 advance online, and children 12 and under are free. The admission fee can be applied to an investment in a Home Based Business program, product, or service with participating exhibitors making the event entirely free to the public. For more information visit www.wahbexpo.com

When I’m Rich, I’m Going to Do X

I read an interesting post last week and wanted to share the message with you. Think about the title of this post. Have you ever caught yourself saying or thinking along these lines?

These often grand dreams are tough to see to fruition, so X doesn’t happen all that often. “When I lose a little more weight I’ll start X”, “When I’m not so busy at work we’ll take that trip to X”, “When I’m more settled in I’ll stop X”;  there’s always a condition holding you back from X.

What’s the solution?

Remove the first half of whatever statement you’re hanging onto and just do X. If for example you’re waiting to have money so you can move to france and become a painter, do something on a smaller scale that brings you some personal satisfaction like taking an art class at a local studio.

Hang on to your old outlook, and you risk life chugging along uneventfully as you wait for a circumstance that might never come. The present is all you’ve got! :)

When to Leave a Job

I sometimes get asked about managing one’s career. Today I came across a blog post that has many of the same ideas and advice I pass on to others. While I don’t agree with everything on the list, there are a particular few I think are vital:

If you aren’t being challenged in your job – leave. If you think you are successful – leave and find something or somewhere where you aren’t. When you become successful again – leave again. If your work is winning awards and it feels like you win most pitches – leave and go somewhere where no one has won anything and there is a low rate of success at pitches. Help them turn it around.

Now you might be saying, “but Matt I have kids to feed and billz to pay! I can’t just quit my job!” The word ‘leave’ doesn’t necessarily mean quit. If you’ve mastered the role you’re working in, it’s a good time to think about moving laterally within the same company, taking on more responsibility, or transferring to another department.

The #1 lesson here is do not get lazy. If you’re not pushing yourself at work, you’re not growing your career.

Why You Need to Optimize for Bing

For those of you with a good memory and those that follow uber geek news you may recall an agreement about a year ago where the Microsoft Bing search engine would start powering the Yahoo search results.

The driver behind the agreement is to release the burden of Yahoo competing head to head with Google in search technology, allowing them to focus on what they do best; providing a content portal and selling ads.  From Microsoft’s standpoint they are committed to making the investment in search technology and this provides another source of revenue and traffic for them.  I see this as a win-win for both companies and webmasters alike, who have one less search engine to worry about.

More recently there has been an announcement of layoffs of Yahoo! Search staff which leads us to speculate the transition to Bing search results is imminent.

Most webmasters heavily rely on Google traffic and rarely even consider the optimization effort for other search engines.  This has been a fine strategy but if you are not thinking about this transition you may wake up to a decrease in search traffic.  Another point of interest is that Bing has been gaining market share and may become increasingly relevant.

Here is a breakdown of market share:

Google Sites 63.70%Yahoo! Sites 18.30%Microsoft Sites 12.10%

For WhyDoWork here is a breakdown of our search traffic:

Google 91.28%Yahoo 4.14%Bing 1.69%Other 6.27%

Now in theory you may assume that after the switch we will see 5.83% bing traffic but this is not necessarily the case.  If we rank poorly in Bing relatively to our competitors we will see a decrease in search traffic after the switch.  If we rank better relatively to our competitors in Bing we will see an increase.

Truthfully the answer is that the same techniques used in determining your Google ranking is conceptually the same as what determines your Bing ranking [backlinks, keyword optimization, meta tags, title tags, url keywords, etc].  If you would like to read about this theory here is a detailed analysis from SEOMoz, the webs authority in SEO.

Not really.  While your conceptual website design and SEO techniques should be the same there are things you can do above and beyond.  A great technique is to run search query tests for main keywords and deep links for search terms you expect to rank well for.  See where you rank and analyse the people who are higher in the rankings then you.  What are they doing different?

The Open Site Explorer is my favorite tool for this type of investigation.  Check out your competitors backlinks vs your own.  Maybe it will give you some tips.

Good Luck!

WhipCar Is a Clever Business Idea and Why This Blog has Been a Ghost Town

First off, I can’t believe I haven’t made a blog post since June. It’s been over 3 months! I had quite a busy summer; did some travelling, switched careers entirely and joined a great company that rhymes with the word moogle, and started working on a new web service. My old routines have been completely 360'd but I’m starting to get back into the groove and hopefully I’ll be posting more in the coming months.

On to the clever business idea. A few years ago I remember a home business where you “got paid to drive your car” by volunteering to have it plastered with ads for a company. The idea had potential but never reached any kind of mass tipping point. A reader alerted me to a business he launched in London this year called WhipCar. With WhipCar, the world’s first neighbour-to-neighbour car rental service, you can now rent the cars that are sitting idle on your street. The service is growing fast and already in over 300 towns and cities across the UK. It’s just like a car club but free to join and about making better use of the cars that are already sitting idle on your street.

Here’s an overview of how it works:

This is a great idea. I just recently signed up for ZipCar after I sold my beloved corvette and I love how this new service takes a distributed, leaner approach to the whole car sharing business vs. taking on the liability for an entire vehicle fleet like ZipCar.

With respect to liability and insurance, WhipCar take care of everything including screening of drivers, and also handles payment back to owners. According to the sites founder,  there are thousands of WhipCar members across the country and many owners are making several hundred pounds (dollars for the rest of us) every month.

If you live in the UK and this peaks your interest,  you can find out how much your car could make with the service simply enter your number plate and postal code details here for a personal rental estimation. Once you register with the service they send you a personalised pack in the post with materials to help you promote your car in the local area.

Sounds like a great business idea to me, hopefully they bring the business to North America soon!
