A Number Of Comprehensive Feature Film Reviews

By Chasity Montgomery

For a long time we have used the video store as one of our main ways to access movies. Now, with internet usage exploding, movie downloads are becoming very popular. Below is a sample of some of the movies you can find using movie download sites.

So Big: Disheartening adaptation of Edna Ferber's legend of an orphaned gal who turns into a schoolteacher in the middle of a farming town and raises her child to strive for a better life. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, George Brent, Dickie Moore, Guy Kibbee, Bette Davis, and Mac Madison. (80 minutes, 1932)

I, Robot: A complex and entertaining thriller about a future world with advanced robot technology. Detective Del Spooner receives a cryptic message from his old friend, Dr. Alfred Lanning, who appears to have committed suicide. Finding a robot inside the room of the murder, a intriguing mystery develops. Based on their programming robots cannot harm humans, so just what did happen to Dr. Lanning?

Thunderheart: There have been a number of killings on the Sioux Indian Reservation. The FBI goes in to deal with the situation. One agent, Ray Levoi, has Sioux blood. As he investigates the case he soon realizes there is much more going on than some random killings.

So Close: Two siblings, ostensibly ultra-tech pc surveillance operators, are secretly assassins decimating a murderously corrupt business outfit by outfit. Quarreling tooth and nail with gun and sword, they're countered by a shrewd policewoman equally skilled in martial crafts. Wonderful-gaudy action set pieces far outplay the inter personals in this hack Charlie's Life savers wannabe. Cast includes Zhao Wei, Karen Mok, Melody Seung Hun, Michael Wai, Yasuaki Kurata, and Derek Wan. (111 minutes, 2002)

Buffalo Soldiers: In 1989, the peacetime U.S. Army stationed in Germany is largely manned by men who had an option of penitentiary or time in the service. One of them (Phoenix) is a salesperson who wheels and deals, Bilko-like, under the nose of his naive commander (Harris) till a new top sergeant shows up (Glenn) who's decided to clean things up. Cast includes Joaquin Phoenix, Ed Harris, Scott Glenn, Anna Paquin, Elizabeth McGovern, Michael Pena, Leon Robinson, Gabriel Mann, and Dean Stockwell. (98 minutes, 2003)

They Still Call Me Bruce: In-name-only continuation to They Call Me Bruce has a minimum of one thing in ordinary with its predecessor: it's terrible. This time Yune plays a Korean looking for the American GI who spared him years ago, ending up as an alternative as a large-sibling compute for orphan Mendenhall. Cast includes Johnny Yune, David Mendenhall, Pat Paulsen, Joey Travolta, Robert Guillaume, Bethany Wright, and Carl Bensen. (91 minutes, 1987)

In Enemy Country: So-so designer of WW2 enthrall, set in France and England, filmed on a back-lot. Not extremely persuading. Cast includes Tony Franciosa, Anjanette Comer, Man Stockwell, Paul Hubschmid, Tom Bell, and Emile Genest. (107 minutes, 1968)

The Count Of Monte Cristo: Edward and Fernand are sailors hoping to become captains of their own ships in the French Navy in the post Napoleon era. When Edward gets his captaincy, and Mercedes, a girl they both covet, agrees to marry him, Fernand becomes very jealous. He gives authorities some evidence that is incriminating to Edward. In spite of his innocence of any crime he is committed to prison for over a decade. He then escapes prison to go on to an adventurous future.

Genealogies of a Crime: Deneuve is beaming in a twin role as the barrister for and sufferer of a strange youthful gentleman who's implicated of killing his psychiatrist mothers sibling once she supposedly subjected him to drastic mind-command remedies. Well-performed although conceited, deliberately perplexing blend of puzzle, satire, and surrealism; hoaxed up with pointless flashbacks within flashbacks and other narrative and graphic gimmicks. Cast includes Catherine Deneuve, Michel Piccoli, Melvil Poupaud, Andrzej Seweryn, and Bernadette LaFont. (114 minutes, 1997)
