How To Make More With Google Adsense

By Michael Fleischner

Every day, tens of thousands of web sites are earning money through Adsense ads. Google's Adsense allows you to display ads on your web site and earn money each time someone clicks on one of the ads being displayed. These ads can be text only, image only or both. Website owners can choose which types of ads they would like displayed. Using Adsense on my own sites, I've learned quite a bit about which techniques can be used to enhance Adsense earnings.

Your Adsense earnings are based on a variety of factors. This includes the ads you display, text, image, or both, and where you display them. Here are some key factors to consider before you place your Adsense code on your web site or blog. Certain placements on your web page can generate higher revenues and higher click throughs. The key is to use placements that have been proven to generate higher click through rates and therefore more revenue. Advertisements that are above the fold tend to perform better than those below.

Google has released a lot of information for advertisers regarding ideal placements and ad sizes. This information is based on reviewing data from across all of the advertisers withing the Google network. What is revealed in this information is that ads that appear on the top, left and bottom of the page, tend to have higher click through rates than other placements. Remember that this information is just a rule of thumb and doesn't hold true for every web site or web page.

Placing ads within your the body of a web page is always a good idea. By providing context around your ads, you significantly increase click through rates. Sites that present ads off to the side rarely out perform web site that integrate Adsense into valuable content. These ads serve as a resource for browsers who are interested int he content being presented on your web page.

Another area associated with Adsense is the use of different ad sizes. In addition, trying various ad sizes in each location on your page can quickly change your earning potential. Not only is ad position important, but rotating and testing different ad sizes in each location can produce radically different results. Advertisers find that medium rectangles in content specific areas seems to work best. The best way to generate more revenue is to continually test ad performance.

The way in which you display your ads also has an impact on earning potential. Whether you are using the standard colors or a blended palette does make a difference. Some sites do better blending their ads in look and feel, making it more difficult for browsers to differentiate between content and ads. Others feel that contrast is necessary for users to notice ads. This may discourage click throughs but if other factors are fine tunes can have the opposite affect generating significant online revenue.

Find the perfect number of ad units to run on your pages. Some sites pack their page with ads. Google Adsense has actually limited the number of ad units you can place on some web pages. This cuts down on spam type sites that only show Google Adsense ads. You should consider however placing multiple ad units on your page. Placing a single ad unit often results in users overlooking the ad. Multiple units and you stand a better chance of getting the ad noticed. Moreover, you may find that the content presented is more likely to appeal to your users.

Consider working with the different variations of Adsense factors to improve your revenue from online advertising. Ad size, number of units, placements, and so on can each have a significant impact on your results. Start with the more common sizes like half banners and medium squares and place two to three units per page. Test frequently and measure your results. Refine your placements and style and soon you'll be making more from your Adsense ads.
