Seven Deadly Sins in Blogging

By bizinspirer

Most online entrepreneurs and corporate bodies today recognize the power of blogging and have adopted it as a top marketing tool. Its potential of attracting huge traffic and the fact that it offers free targeted advertising is capitalized on by both small businesses and bigger companies. But to be successful blogging for business there are some mistakes that must be avoided.

1. Employing the wrong host

Choosing a host can make or break your blog.It is important that you invest some time researching for a good host as there are many poor and unreliable webhosts scrambling for attention with the increasing trend in people turning to the web for promoting their businesses. It is advisable to choose a webhost which offers a wide array of relevant features;have minimal or hardly any downtimes, in other words, are up and running 99.9% of the time and have a good support system. It is a good habit to check client reviews before choosing any particular host.

2. Choosing the wrong domain name.

Selecting the right domain name is crucial to your success.Having different extensions of popular websites does not augur well for your site. For instance having a .net or .org version of a known website will tend to sway traffic to that site as many would associate your site with the known one as most people are used to the .com extension. If somebody has already occupied your desired domain you need to modify it a bit in order to keep it unique keeping the vision/ ideology in tact. There are people, who book some common domains and wait for the prospective clients who ask for domains. So, even if you dont find your most wanted domain, you can rummage around to see who the owner of that particular domain name is and it is also possible that the person may be willing to sell you his domain at very premium prices

3. Shabbily written content

Having a lot of grammatical and typographical errors in your blogs go a long way to dampen your image.A blog helps position you as an authority in your field and it is therefore in your best interest to scan your writing for errors before posting. Posting duplicate content also gives a poor reflection on your expertise and your readers would eventually lose interest if they find out.Be unique

4 .Seldomly updated blog

Its quite unfortunate but most bloggers infrequently update their blogs and keep their readers in suspense . The smart marketers make a conscious effort to regularly update their site as they know the significance and the impact on web traffic. You might lose your readers for good if you do not invest time in updating your blog.

5. Overlooking research

Why do some blogs succeed?Have you ever wondered why ?Authors of such blogs invest time and effort on research to ensure that the information they provide is accurate. It is always proper to employ due diligence in coming out with the right information .Inaccurate information may create a dent in your hard earned reputation and it would be difficult for people to turn to you for their informational needs.

6. Over-monetizing your blog

It is widely acceptable to monetize your blog with affiliate links from eBay, clickbank or any of the other hundreds that are available, but be circumspect.Always have in mind that blog readers are interested in the content of the blog and not in sale pitches.

7. Link breaks -

It is always proper to recheck your links. It is very frustrating for a blog reader to click on a link only to find out it doesn't work or ends up somewhere not affiliated to the blog in any way.
