Tips For Using Menu Covers In Improving Sales

By Justin Banks

Good food and excellent customer service surely boosts restaurant sales and builds clientele in food business. But owners fail to consider the effects of menu covers in sales.

Customers sometimes judge the restaurant in terms of the menu covering. Lousy packages reflect a sense of unprofessionalism and lack of cleanliness that will drive customers to competitors.

In most cases, diners can remember the place where the restaurant is placed but not its name. Owners should ponder on this carefully because this might mean bad for the business. If the store will move to a new location, customers will simply look for a new place to eat instead of following them to their new location. Customers will also have a hard time recommending the store to their friends because they cannot remember the name. Customers will not only lose recommendations but future customers.

Covers leave a lasting impression to customers. Untidy packages yield the feeling of unprofessionalism and lack of cleanliness, aside from driving customers away. To avoid such scenarios, owners should be aware on how to increase sales using menu covers.

Proper Positioning of Logos and Names Stores are often recognized from afar through its logo. People can sometimes remember more the logo compared with the name. In menus, both logo and name should be in a noticeable area like the front cover, or in header and footer in every page.

Font Style Uniformity Though covers can go for various themes for every branch, they should still follow uniformity in their letters and font sizes. Generally, a menu uses three typefaces for the heading, general texts, and highlighted sections.

Localized Covers Establishments having several branches do not need to follow the same theme. Some branches can go different than the other branch by imposing certain ?feel? through their store ambience, menus, and covers. Some owners consider this as a part of their strategic plan. For example, store in an urban area can impose rural-inspired themes while those in country sides can have urban themes. In this way, customers can have a different feel of the store for every branch.

Layout and Contents Highly profitable items should be strategically placed in the menu for the diners to see it easily. Diners usually scan the menu from the top right portion to the bottom left portion, following a pattern similar to a reversed ?Z.? In addition, useless contents like an iced tea description saying ?delicious and healthy cold tea topped with ice and orange slices? should be avoided because customers know what an iced tea is. Instead, the content should focus on bestsellers and specialties of the restaurant. Unfamiliar dish description can also be included to introduce it to the customers for added profit.

Enclosures and the Back Cover Survey and feedback slips are a good idea to get customer insights on how to improve their sales and service. It can be placed at the back cover together with company profile, mission and vision, and so on. Creative back cover designs like collages can be trendy and strategic use of pictures can show customers the wide service range of the restaurant.

Owners can experiment on different ideas to improve sales through menu covers. But they should not forget the main philosophy of having a food business, and that is to provide great food and excellent customer service.
