How You Can Improve Your Website

By Laurance Campbell

Many professional designer and developers spend a lot of there hard earned precious time to find better ways to present out ideas in the form of websites. While there is no definitive rule book, there are a number of thing that you should consider, if you are serious about pumping out effective visuals and concepts on your sites.

Fundamentally, think about your unique selling point, or what it is your website has to offer. Think about your customers and how you are giving them what they want on your site. The actual theme must very straight forward and obvious to the reader. There are many other factors such as colour schemes and patterns that can influence people.

Be honest, look at your website and ask your self if the site you have created is attractive and obvious to you. Ask your self or try to imagine how you would react if you visited your own site for the first time. Think about your niche market and what it is that is most important to your target market. Often they say that less is best, so cut down on unwanted information and waffle so you always get straight to the point.

Think about the whether or not your site is balanced between your content and advertising. Essentially, your advertising should constitute no more than 25% of the design. When you are sitting at home watching the T.V and only ever saw adverts without any relevant content that interests you, then you would hardly ever turn it on. The same can be said for magazines and books.

Unwanted distractions can be a very decisive factor when a visitor comes to your site. Always avoid annoying popups and silly animations. They can often appear too dominant and detract your visitor from realising your web sites full potential. If you are using animations, then think about how readable it is and how fast the information is moving across the screen.

It is always good to think about the customers interests. In other words, what are they look for when visiting your site ?. It is more important that you please them, rather than please yourself.

It is important that you do not try to hard to attract your visitors to your product or service. Pushy sales people are often disregarded and avoided, so the idea is to be indifferent and throw out some bait, without laying all your cards down straight away. Give your visitors what they need or just enough to make them want to investigate more. If you put too much information on one page, then it looks like your trying too hard to sell your services.
