Your First Pair of High Heel Shoes

By Gabe V. Kingston

Your first pair of high heel shoes is really an adventure. Back in the fifties and sixties, little girls were encouraged to walk around in high heels to help develop the shape of the calf. This practice fell to the wayside during the eighties for the most part as girls turned in their dress shoes for their soccer shoes.

When you put on your first pair of high heel shoes do so before you need to wear them for an entire day. You should spend a little time in them, breaking them in and getting used to the different muscle movements that help you keep your balance. Wearing them for a whole day the first time around can lead to blisters, muscle cramps, and feet that feel the need to be free.

Don't go for a pair of high heel shoes that have a significant heel. Try a mid to small range heel to help you get used to walking with an elevated heel. There are many different types of heels that can give you different elevations. The higher the heel the more likely you are to stumble, bumble, and fall while using them.

If you're not really quite sure that you're completely ready to take the heel plunge, you aren't really required to. Once upon a time it was considered a serious faux pas not to wear heels with skirts and dresses, but you have many more options now. Some women just want to buy their first pair of high heel shoes to have them on hand once they reach their twenties and realize that they are lacking a pair in their closet.

When you are ready for your very first pair of high heel shoes, you're going to need to carefully select your online shoe store. Listings that include heel height will be quite invaluable to you while you are selecting your shoe style.

If you're a little scared just give yourself plenty of time to practice walking around in your new high heels. A little each day in incremental progression should be enough to help you get the feeling of walking in heels without tripping. Just by practicing you tend to get a sense of how different surfaces can change how the heels feel under your feet. Make sure an adult is home before you practice walking up stairs, especially those that are finished wood.

You've been around women in high heel shoes, you've seen a woman stumble in her heels, and you have probably even tried on a pair or two that belonged to a woman in your family. While this is definitely a rite of passage it is not completely unfamiliar ground. Getting your first pair of high heel shoes is exciting, maybe a little intimidating, but definitely fun. Enjoy selecting your first pair of high heel shoes and have fun wearing them. Growing up into a woman is really a fantastic ride.
