Is Copy Writing Important To Your Online Business?

By Kevin Thomas

A list of factors that go into the success or failure of a business would be tough to compile due to the sheer volume. There are scores of reasons why a business will achieve or fail and with online businesses, there are even more additional complexities present. This is due to the multifaceted component associated with online ventures such as dealing with a stiff pool of competition in the search engines regarding traffic driving. Then, even when you do drive traffic to a site you will need to turn the traffic into a paid customer base. There is good news here: it is possible to succeed when you employ effective copy writing to drive your business' success. Copy writing often holds the key to delivering the missing elements that can make or break an online business.

Copy writing is a term that is thrown around a bit too loosely and it's important to understand what it really means. Copy writing is not just any website content you have. On the contrary, copy writing is geared specifically to be promotional. The purpose of copy writing is to get somebody to make a purchase or take another desired action. High quality copy writing will draw people in, get their attention and keep them engaged, leading them the whole way towards taking a specific action that the author or business owner intended.

Content such as reviews, testimonials or product and service details is meant to be informative. It's secondary information that people are looking for and interested in, but it's not selling anything directly. At most it's making a soft-sell by giving people more confidence in what you're offering, or by merely informing them as much as possible so they can make an accurate judgment if they are interested.

As most will note it is the copy writing that serves the important purpose of making a strong push for a sale. It is not just an informative process as much as it hints strongly at the notion of taking deliberate action. It leads people into doing exactly what needs to be done, how to do it, and it also provides clear and detailed reasons on why their immediate action will be so beneficial to them. This will allow you to convert a lot of customers since you are putting them on a psychological spot that aids in their decision making.

There are a great many business owners that take a complete hands off approach and think people will figure their business plan out and then make the decisions needed to become customers. To say this is a bad idea would be a severe understatement. In fact, it is a complete and total fundamental misunderstanding of how things work in online businesses. Poorly designed websites will not lead to good sales. The same can be said of any website that embodies awful copy writing.

Copy writing can prove to be the clear link between a product or service and consumer or prospect. Copy writing can bring the two together and present everything out in the open. You can either hope that a soft-sell approach delivers enough to get the job done, or you can seek out sales in an active manner through copy writing. Such writing delivers the effective difference between passively watching a prospect walk out the door vs. convincing the prospect to make the person an offer that can't be refused. As the owner of an online business you need to highlight all of the business' strengths and benefits. Copy writing is the means in which you can do this and the end result will be more sales and conversions.

Most individuals embody a short attention span and this creates the requirement that they need all things laid out directly in from of them. When I buy a product, what exactly is it that I would be receiving? Is there a reason that I should buy your product instead of some other company's wares? What exactly are the benefits with working in association with your organization? If I take action immediately, what do I get in return? What is it that I will I be missing if I opt not to make this purchase? These are the common questions that people will seek answers to. This is what copy writing has the potential to deliver.

The bottom line is that copy writing really can make or break your online business. Without high quality copy writing, you're just another website amongst hundreds of millions that doesn't stand out from the crowd. People may find your site, but they'll quickly leave as they ponder what you're all about and why they should care. However, with copy writing when you have people at your site, they are yours for the taking. You can quickly convince and convert them, bringing in a great deal more sales than would have occurred otherwise. You can either hope that your hands-off, soft-sell approach works or you can seize the reins and pull the sales in with copy writing.
