By Francis Mendoza

The word 'bouquet' means 'an arrangement of flowers' in French language. It is essentially a form of designing and wrapping carried out with a cluster of flowers to act as a gift-item on a special occasion.

Bouquet preparation is an art that need enormous patience and dedication to acquire and practise. It is called floristry, and it involves an elegant floral assortment with the help of flowers, leaves, herbs and even stems.

Preparing a bouquet begins with the plucking and gathering of different flowers, followed by trimming and grouping. This step is followed by removing the dried leaves and then arranging the flowers properly and finally wrapping them up.

Every florist has his own unique design, which is dependant on the occasions for which the bouquets are being prepared. The demand as well as the supply of flowers in a specific season also plays an important role in the ultimate design of the bouquet.

It is also very important to note that the meaning of flowers changes across cultures as the same flowers can represent different ideas in different communities. Therefore, a bouquet should be selected wisely if you wish to gift it to someone who hails from another culture.

But, there are a few flowers that have similar meanings across different cultures. For example, you can always gift a bunch of red roses to your beloved, no matter which culture she belongs to as red roses have come to symbolize love in cultures all over the world.
